CHRIST CHURCH - PENSACOLA

  • Reconstruction of Bell Tower

In  2004, the destructive winds of Hurricane Ivan toppled the bell tower that once  rose above the parapet of the south face of Christ  Church in Pensacola, Florida. Using written, oral, and  photographic evidence, I was able reconstruct the bell tower using cad computer  software to draw the tower. Using these drawings I worked closely with  representatives from Gladding McBean (an industry leader in architectural terra  cotta) to reconstruct the intricate details of the tower's terra cotta  decorations. Additionally, the tower was re-installed using a concealed steel sub-structure  so that the tower can withstand future hurricanes.
